Asfortherestofthecountenance,Somersetwasobligedtoownthatitwasnotbeautiful:Naturehaddonetheremanythingsthatsheoughtnottohavedone,andleftundonemuchthatsheshouldhaveexecuted。Itwouldhavebeendecidedlyplainbutforapreciousqualitywhichnoperfectionofchisellingcangivewhenthetemperamentdeniesit,andwhichnofacialirregularitycantakeaway——atenderaffectionatenesswhichmightalmostbecalledyearning;suchasisoftenseeninthewomenofCorreggiowhentheyarepaintedinprofile。ButtheplainfeaturesofMissDeStancy—— whosheundoubtedlywas——wereratherseverelyhandledbySomerset\'sjudgmentowingtohisimpressionofthepreviousnight。Abeautyofasortwouldhavebeenlentbytheflexuouscontoursofthemobilepartsbutforthatunfortunateconditionthepoorgirlwasburdenedwith,ofhavingtohandonatraditionalfeaturewithwhichshedidnotfindherselfotherwiseinharmony。
