Truepoetry,thebestofit,isbuttheashesofaburnt—outpassion。 Theflamewasintheeyeandinthecheek,thecoalsmaybestillburningintheheart,butwhenwecometothewordsitleavesbehindit,alittlewarmth,acinderortwojustglimmeringunderthedeadgrayashes,——thatisallwecanlookfor。Whenitcomestothemanufacturedarticle,oneissurprisedtofindhowwellthemetricalartisanshavelearnedtoimitatetherealthing。Theycatchallthephrasesofthetruepoet。Theyimitatehismetricalformsasamimiccopiesthegaitofthepersonheisrepresenting。
