Sittingonthemossyturf,Imusedoverbygoneyearsintheslopingshadowsoftheevening,whenslowlytherecameoutfromthefoldingdarknessoffoliageanapparitionofbeautyintheperfectformofawoman,andstoodonawhiteslabofstoneatthewater’sbrink。Itseemedthattheheartoftheearthmustheaveinjoyunderherbarewhitefeet。Methoughtthevagueveilingsofherbodyshouldmeltinecstasyintoairasthegoldenmistofdawnmeltsfromoffthesnowypeakoftheeasternhill。Shebowedherselfabovetheshiningmirrorofthelakeandsawthereflectionofherface。Shestartedupinaweandstoodstill;thensmiled,andwithacarelesssweepofherleftarmunloosedherhairandletittrailontheearthatherfeet。Shebaredherbosomandlookedatherarms,soflawlesslymodelled,andinstinctwithanexquisitecaress。Bendingherheadshesawthesweetblossomingofheryouthandthetenderbloomandblushofherskin。Shebeamedwithagladsurprise。So,ifthewhitelotusbudonopeninghereyesinthemorningweretoarchherneckandseehershadowinthewater,wouldshewonderatherselfthelivelongday。Butamomentafterthesmilepassedfromherfaceandashadeofsadnesscreptintohereyes。Shebounduphertresses,drewherveiloverherarms,andsighingslowly,walkedawaylikeabeauteouseveningfadingintothenight。Tomethesupremefulfilmentofdesireseemedtohavebeenrevealedinaflashandthentohavevanished……Butwhoisitthatpushesthedoor? ChitraSprungfromthehighestofallroyalhouses,thegreatestofallheroesishe。 ArjunaLady,offernotsuchwealthofbeautyasisyoursonthealtaroffalsereputation。Spuriousfamespreadsfromtonguetotonguelikethefogoftheearlydawnbeforethesunrises。Tellmewhointhehighestofkinglylinesisthesupremehero?
