Ifhehadbeenabletoformevenanapproximateideaofthecompassdirectioninwhichtheyhadstarted,hemightpossiblyhavebeenableinageneralwaytocounteractthisfurthereffortoftheirstoconfusehim;butwithouttheinitialdirectionhewasessentiallybefogged。
Withtheseconclusionsfinallythrusthomeuponhim,JimmieDalephilosophicallysubordinatedthematterinhismind,and,leaningback,composedhimselfascomfortablyashecoulduponhisseat。
