beforetheyspringforthItellyouofthem。”Isa。42:9。AndthisistherecordthattheenemiesofIsraelhaveleftconcerningtheprophetofGodinIsrael:“TheheartofthekingofSyriawassoretroubledforthisthing[becausehecouldnotentrapthekingofIsrael]；andhecalledhisservants，andsaiduntothem，WillyenotshowmewhichofusisforthekingofIsrael?Andoneofhisservantssaid，None，mylord，Oking: ButwiththeardentSpiritist，theBiblefadesoutofhislifeininverseratiototheholdthatSpiritismgainsuponhissoul。Andthencomespositivedenialofitsfundamentalprinciples，denialofJesusChristastheSaviourofmen，anddenialofGodHimself，exceptinaridiculouslyaccommodatedsense。 Asfrequentlystatedinthesepages，theBibleteachesunequivocallythatthedeadareasleep，andwillcontinueinthatconditionuntilthevoiceofGodshallcallthemfromtheirtombs。ItisproposedinthischaptertoshowhowSpiritismspecificallyattacksthatfundamentalprincipleofthedivineplan，contradictingtheBibleindeliberateanduncompromisingterms，andseeking，throughdemoniacalimpersonationofthedead，toproveitsassertionsandtodemonstratetheBiblefalse。 TheinvestigationsconductedbySirOliverLodgehaveconvincedhimthatthereareintelligencescommunicatingwithhimfrom“thespiritworld。” IntheHarbingerofLightforOctober，1921，isgiventhesummaryofanaddressbytheLordBishopofLincolnattheunveilingofawarmemorial，whichisaperfectreplicaofthecreedofSpiritism。Thesamejournal，ofthesamedate，givesthesummaryofanaddressattheUnitarianchurch，Wellington，NewZealand，byRev。WyndhamHeathcote，whichwouldhavebeenmuchmoreappropriatelygiveninaspiritistictemplethaninanykindofchurch。Coupledwithitsadvocacyofspiritisticpracticesanditsassertionsthatthedemonstrationsofspiritualpowerintheprophetsofoldwerespiritisticintheirnature，theaddressmakesasubtleattackupontheBibleitself，inthiscoursealsofollowingtheleadofSpiritism。 Spaceforbidsthatwegofartherintothisparticulardevelopment。ButthesubtlepoisonoftheteachingofSpiritismispermeatingeveryrankofsocietyandnearlyeverydenominationinChristendom。Thislamentablefactstareseveryinvestigatorintheface。Hemustadmitthefact，and，havingdoneso，heisboundtoinquireastowhattheresultwillbeuponchurchandworld。RealizingwhattheteachingsofSpiritismareinreferencetothejudgment，weareboundtoconcludethattheresultwillbetoincreasethesumoftheworld\'simmorality。Ifthereisnojudgebutourselves，andtheonlyjudgmentmetedouttousforoursinfulcourseissuchasweourselvesarepleasedtometeouttoourselves，thensurelywehavenotmuchPage162tofearasaconsequenceofanyiniquitouscoursewemaytakehere。Sowemightsay，“Letuseatanddrink，andcarouse，andcommitanycrimeinthecatalogueifwewish，fortomorrowwedie，andhavenoonetometeoutjudgmenttousbutourselves。” Hedeclared:“Werealize，fromtheinformationwehaveobtainedfromthedead，thatmanhasbeenoverharshwithhimself；thatthe\'GreatPoweroftheuniverseisnotsoimplacableaswehaveimagined……Wehaveeverythingtohopeforandverylittletofear。Thisworldisamereworkshop，andthenextistherestcure。”Beyondquestionsuchamessageasthatfromsonotedamanwilltemptmanyamanandwomantothinkthereisnodayofjudgmentforsinscommittedinthislife。Ifthatbeliefshouldbecomegeneral，thisworldinafewyearswouldhardlyhaveenoughlaw-abidingcitizensleftinittokeeptherestinjail。Themoralstandardoftheworldwouldsinklikeatorpedo-smittensteamer。“Ifgoodandbadmeetthesamefate，thereisnojusticeintheworld；andifnojustice，noreason……Theuniverse，onsuchatheory，wouldbeagiganticpracticaljoke，ofthecruelestandmostmaliciousdescription。”ThatiswhatSatanistryingtomakeofGod\'suniverseandgovernment，thewhilehedragsthosewhomightbesubjectsofGod\'seternalkingdomofpeaceandloveoutofthepaththatleadstothatkingdomandintothepaththatends，withhim，inthelakeoffireanddestruction。 GodhasdenominatedthebodyofHisfaithfulfollowerstheecclesia，thecalledout；andHisinvitation-commandis:“Comeoutfromamongthem，andbeyeseparate，saiththeLord，andtouchnottheuncleanthing；andIwillreceiveyou，andwillbeaFatheruntoyou，andyeshallbeMysonsanddaughters，saiththeLordAlmighty。”2Cor。6:17，18。
