ThenMowgli’shandshotoutliketheheadofatree-snake,andgrippedhimbythescruffofhisneck,andthebranchshookwiththejarashisweightfellback,almostwrenchingMowglitotheground。Butheneverloosedhisgrip,andinchbyinchhehauledthebeast,hanginglikeadrownedjackal,uponthebranch。Withhislefthandhereachedforhisknifeandcutoffthered,bushytail,flingingthedholebacktoearthagain。
