Thenextthreeweekswerespentinminoroperations,consolidatingpositions,repellingcounter—attacks,andpreparingforthereal\"biggo,\"inwhichtheCanadiansweretotaketheirpartintheadvanceofthewholealliedline,afterwhichthebattalionwassentintoreserveforafewdays’respite。 TheCanadianlinewasgraduallywearingthin,butthespiritofthosewhosurvivedwasthespiritofthewholealliedline,——thespiritthatclaimedvictoryandwasnottobedenied。Astothenatureofthetaskawaitingthem,however,theywellknewthatitwastobeafightinwhichthelastounceofresolutionandonlythelastouncewouldcarrythemthroughtotheirobjective。
